And be in good health. 3 John 1:2
Jon and Candy’s vision, ministry, and businesses towards building a lasting viable legacy for their children: Our family covenant began in 1978, when we married. Our first child was born in 1980.
In 1982, we undertook the complete care of Candy’s parent’s 78 acres.
From 1987 to 1998, and then again from 2006 for several years, we served as leaders of North County Christian Home School Association, which grew from a handful of families to hundreds in just a couple of years, as families traveled hours to participate in what was touted as “revival” meetings. During this time, we also served as leaders in Christian Home Educators Fellowship.
In 1987, we created There’s No Place Like Home, a business that publishes a newsletter, which is now emailed nationwide, and also a book, planner, and website. There’s No Place Like Home eventually broadened to include interior decorating and remodeling as part of its overall mission to improve families’ homes.
God blessed us with two more children in 1988 and 1990.
In 1990 Jon assisted in founding a family integrated church for homeschooling families.
Since 1993, we led Missouri’s state organization, Christian Home Educator’s Fellowship, which at the thirtieth anniversary, was renamed Family Covenant Ministries. Along with our children, we host statewide monthly meetings, monthly family activities, twelfth grade graduation ceremonies, and an annual state conference. Considered by national leaders to be preeminent in the nation, because of our vision and instruction, the conference draws families from all over the country, and even from other countries.
In 1995 the last of our four children was born.
In 1997 we purchased fifteen acres and a house next to Candy’s parent’s country property in hopes of moving there and adding land for a farm. God had other plans for us at the time.
In 2003 we began a family business, Summers on the Lawn LLC, a complete lawn care and landscaping company, which involved our entire family in serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers, along with Home Owners Associations. Besides lawns and landscaping, this business also encompassed excavation, tree removal, stump grinding, construction of retaining walls and decks, installation of privacy fences, refinishing decks, roofing, siding, power washing, cleaning gutters, brush hogging, baling hay, and snow plowing. After moving to our farm in 2014, we sold that business except for 500 acres that we still mow for the Missouri Sewer District.
Through Summers on the Lawn, we mentored young men in how to work hard, be productive, and manage a business. One of those young men purchased our business.
In 2003, men laid hands on Jon to establish and pastor the Lord’s Family Fellowship, dedicated to equipping faithful generations of covenanted families. Together, we started co-authoring in-depth chronological Bible studies that same year, for our children, the church, and our CHEF/FCM families.
With the help of caregivers, our entire family cared for Jon’s mother in 2005, and Candy’s parents from 2008 to 2014. In 2014, Candy’s mother, who has Alzheimer’s, moved in with them.
In 2010, we set-up an organic produce, grass fed meats, and bulk order co-op.
In 2012, our family began farming. In 2014 we moved to the farm and continue to live and work together there operating our Summers’ Wood Products LLC sawmill and Jersey Downs LLC dairy, along with raising grass fed beef, Heritage Berkshire pork, pasture raised lamb, organic produce, honey, maple syrup, and flowers through Summers Family Farms LLC. Our family is presently working on converting the old farmhouse into a butcher shop for processing our own meats.
In 2017 we began our newest endeavor in building a multi million-dollar Young Living enterprise that will encompass our entire team of families across the world in providing a future and a hope for God’s people.
You May Prosper LLC is a Young Living business devoted to helping families attain optimal health and financial security through the biblical tools God provides for wellness, purpose, abundance, and generational wealth.
Our mission is to build a team of leaders across the country, and beyond, who will labor together to share the vision of families working together in their own Young Living family business and building their own family dynasties for transforming their culture for Christ’s glory.
Future plans for our family include making specialized knives and constructing a greenhouse on the farm; operating a market, nursery, conference center, inn, restaurant, and gift shop near town; owning a publishing company for printing Christian theological and historical books; while continually purchasing thousands of acres for our children’s children in the valley where we live.
Rather a tall order, but one that is conceivable for a multigenerational vision. Frankly, one of the blessings of living for our children’s children is the assurance that what we leave undone, our posterity will finish. We just set the course and wait patiently for God to bring it all about in His timing.
Someday we hope to be able to say that the Summers Family Businesses are family owned and operated by generations of Summers’ families that continue to live and work together on the land they call home in the same location for over 1,000 years.
